Where the Hidden album is a good fit

Apple says hidden photos do not appear in ordinary library views, other albums or the Photos widget, and the album is locked by default on supported software. Read Apple’s current Hidden album instructions. If that organization and system credential fit your needs, it is a straightforward built-in choice.

When separate vault access matters

A different credential can be useful when another person knows your everyday device passcode or when documents and private notes should sit alongside personal images. Vaultary encrypts imported contents, their names and the library index under a random vault master key.

Explore manual access followed by Face ID and read the encryption model. The distinction is a separate access and storage model—not a claim that Apple’s native album is unprotected.

Plan the original-copy decision

Importing creates a separate copy. Check it before deciding what to remove from Photos, Recently Deleted and synchronized devices. Keep the recovery token and an encrypted archive accessible before making a vault the only home for important files.

Use the practical selection guide for a wider checklist before moving a collection.
